12/29-12/30/12 weekend

Breakfast 12/29/12 Saturday....Off to a good start.  I'm having the same banana smoothie I have been drinking the past few days because it is delicious.

I saw this on Pinterest .
It reminded me of this old friend of mine, one of my oldest actually.  She just got engaged and her Grandmother passed away a few weeks ago.  When we were young I coerced her into laying back and flipping up our dresses on the steps of the alter durning the children's story, not just once, but most sabbath mornings.  meaning of friendship

I got up early enough on Saturday morning and drank my power smoothie to get to this class that I've been meaning to get to for a few weeks now, it's called Strictly Strength.  I then rushed out of there to make it the Aleeah's class at the Uptown LifePower Yoga.  Afterwards I was starving so I went to the Namaste CafĂ©.

I shared the Paapri Chaat (above) with my husband, Devin.

I ordered the Saturday vegetarian lunch special, coconut spinach curry and all the namaste fixin's.
Devin ordered a rice dish with chicken and he liked it.

My spinach coconut curry was so tasty it deserved a close up.

When I got home I had received a book that I ordered because my friend Marisa had recommended I read it because she saw that blog I had started, Women Food and God.  I was trying to read it and my dog, Maxime, was trying to help me.  She drooled all over the first chapter.  After I read the first four chapters or so, as predicted, I feel asleep for a Saturday afternoon nap.  When I woke up I was so hungry, I kind of messed up a little.  I ate chips and salsa and a slice of cheese.  You can see my mess up below.

Afterwards I felt so bad.  I hardly had any calories left so I kind of said fuck it, and had mashed potatoes and gravy and left over salmon for dinner.  To top it off, I made snickerdoodle blondies from a recipe I had swiped off Pinterest.  I only had one, but still, not so good.  I have a hard time when I mess up at all, I want to completely throw the towel in.  Notice, I didn't even blog last night.  I am playing catch up today.  Throughout this morning and afternoon, several people asked me about my blog again, so here I am, getting back on the horse and trying again.  At the end of the day, I really didn't mess up that badly.  I was 454 calories over where I should have been to have lost weight for the day.  I felt badly because I had worked out for two hours and then I messed it up with taco chips and chocolate.  Anyways, on to Sunday.

The smoothie I made this morning was super boring.  It was half a mango, vegan protein powder, coconut beverage, chia seeds and a little ice.  I don't think I would make it again unless I am completely out of any other fruit.  I like the banana one I've been eating, but I felt I would give you guys a little variety and switch to mango.  Well, now we know banana is the way to go.  :-)

I taught three yoga classes back to back and then I was so looking forward to lunch and my boss walked in and I remembered I had a training to attend for this EVOLVE program I am leading at the St. Louis Park and Minnetonka Lifetimes.  I had to go straight from teaching three classes to this yoga training, and I was so hungry.  The topic of our seminar....Yoga Meals

Her is a picture of what I got to eat after my classes.  Jason talked to us about how to lead the open house for EVOLVE.  It is this really cool cleanse and way of eating that is so cool.  Even though I was so hungry and didn't really feel like being at work anymore, I did really enjoy this little snack because of how I ate it.  If you do this cleanse with me, I will teach you how to have a yoga meal, or eat mindfully.    I would love to add a link for you to get more info on the cleanse and program, but I don't have one as of yet.  Hopefully I can get you one in the next few days.  I just asked my boss, Jason and I bet he will help get one.

To the left is Nick Bez, he doesn't really look like that in real life.  He looks much less like a convict.  On the right is Heather and Jason.  Patience is above in the other picture, and my friend Dave was at the training too, but I didn't get a picture of him.

After the training, I went to meet my sister who surprised me by coming into town from Iowa this afternoon.  I got to meet her for a nice dinner at Jasmine 26.  Stephanie is always with her family, she has three little, adorable children, and a husband that take up most of her time and so I rarely get to have time with just her.

This is Stephanie, and this is pretty much what I will look like 18 years from now.  That's how much older she is than me.  She looks pretty to me, so that's good news.

I ate the lemongrass tofu dish and Steph had the veggie curry soup.  We shared mock duck spring rolls.  I love Jasmine 26.

The benefits of being forced to skip lunch include the above picture.  Yup, I got it, an apple turnover from my favorite Mexican bakery.

This is my dog, Maxime, looking at me while I eat my delectable dessert.

I got some new yoga clothes for Christmas and so I asked Devin to take a couple of pictures of me in my new outfit.  I got a new Lululemon sweatshirt and tank from my Mother-in-Law, Mary Kay.  Merry Christmas!!!!

I would love to much a little more, but I am not hungry and I am drinking tea to satiate my need to eat mindlessly.  I am done for the day.  Now, tomorrow, Team Weight Loss, here me come.  I'll report back to you with the results of New Year's Eve.  Hopefully I'll get lots of fun pictures at First Ave.  If you are not from Minnesota, it is the club that Prince started and Purple Rain made it super famous.   It is where I intend to celebrate New Year's Eve tomorrow night.

12/28/12

Eight Ball Eight Ball Magic Eight Ball...
Will I loose this weight before my birthday?

Breakfast:  Leftover Christmas mashed potatoes and gravy that I ate all of, and leftover vegetable Torta.  Yum.  Totally didn't eat all of the torta.

Even though laughter is totally the best calorie burner, I worked out anyways.  I ran for 50 minutes and did the step mill/stair master for 12 minutes.  I worked my zones, and I think this is the best zone workout I've done.  I am getting into my groove with my zones.  I also did about 10 minutes of core work, so my Polar wristwatch heart rate monitor said I burned 804 calories!  Hard work yeah!  :-)

Above is a picture of what home looked like this morning.  I'm not going to lie, I'd love to be home right now, but if I was home I wouldn't have had such a good running workout, and running today made me feel really great.  After my run, I refueled with my new favorite smoothie (ingredients above). I have found unsweetened coconut milk, unsweetened Spiru-tein protein powder (which actually tastes good), and I love Chia seeds.  I have just been putting banana in my smoothie and it tastes so delicious, it is a subtle banana flavor that is so so good and satisfying, I would eat this even if I wasn't trying to loose weight.

You cant really tell, but my drive home was beautiful!

I went to Sen Yai Sen Lek for carryout tonight and inside was this rad canvas of NorthEast.  I live in NorthEast Minneapolis, and I love it.
Apparently, it has been voted best Thai in Mpls in 2008 and 2009.  I think that this could be true, not sure yet, I need to eat there a few more times.  I have eaten at almost every Thai restaurant in Minneapolis and St. Paul, I even worked at a Thai restaurant in St. Paul, The Grand Thai, a few years ago.

I Pad Kee Mao and it was so good, wow, was it good.  I had a clementine for dessert.  Oh, I thought about getting something from my favorite Mexican bakery, The Durango Bakery that is right next to the thai place I got carry out from, but I thought better of it, and had a clementine instead.  I was watching Top Chef while I ate it.  Top Chef is my favorite show.  I really like the Seattle season, especially since I am from Washington.

Hurray!  I did a good job today.

12/27/12

This is my morning smoothie and the first super healthy powerhouse food I've had since after my Christmas Eve yoga class.  Christmas was good to me, and I was good to Christmas.  All is well, but it felt good this morning to get back into the swing of things and eat a healthy breakfast!

I taught two yoga classes, the first at 6am and the second at 8am in SLP.  I then took a cardio kickboxing class...
totally worth the trouble.

I had one more yoga class to teach and a little time before morning classes to grab a quick bite from the wedge.  Yum!!!!!  I did have to eat in my car though, not the best, but better than nothing.

I keep trying to get in protein so I ate the delicious chickpeas and quinoa because both are great sources of plant based protein.
A quinoa salad, carrot beet soup with ginger and an apricot for dessert.

So far so good until I got home and pigged out on baguette, mushrooms and horseradish sauce.  I was so tired after my day of hard work, I got home, watched Top Chef Season 10 episode 8 and porked out.  It was delicious until I felt sick afterwards.  I then got to take a nap for a little bit.  I had the house to myself, no husband, no dog, just peace and quite.  It was lovely!

Dinner calories are above, I went out tonight with some girlfriends, JoAnna and Torrey.  We went to the Mill Valley Kitchen and it was lovely.  I totally want to bring my husband and his parents there because I think they would all really like everything about it.  The restaurant was beautiful inside, it was snowing outside and so everything looked especially nice, and the food was great!  It is local and organic, with tons of vegan and gluten free options.  The menu also breaks down calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber as you can see below.

I skipped dessert at the Mill Valley Kitchen, but I still wanted a little something sweet when I got home so I decided to eat one Lindor Truffle, the peanut butter kind.  Apparently each individual truffle is 73 calories.  Yikes, I am glad I ate only one.

Below is a summary of my day!
